Should the agent be a REALTOR?
The NAR is, by far, the largest professional association for real estate
agents and brokers. Dues (local, state, and national), are over $300 per
year. Similar to other professional, volunteer organizations, the NAR
provides services to its members, including continuing education. Its
REALTOR Code of Ethics sets standards of practice for its members, and
provides a means for consumers and REALTORS to seek disciplinary actions
against REALTORS who don't abide by the Code.
Almost all serious, committed real
estate licensees are REALTORS. Find out if the licensee you're
qualifying is a REALTOR; if she isn't, at least ask why not. Listen
closely to the answer, and ask yourself whether, in your line of work,
that answer would suffice about your own professional organizations.
