Surfing the
Internet.
Thousands of agents and real estate companies now have home pages on the
World Wide Web, The quality and usefulness of the information varies
from terrific to terrible. Why do they put all this information on the
Web? To entice you to call the agent or the office. How is it working?
Agents and companies are getting less than 5 percent of their business
from their Web sites. As buyers use the Internet to buy in general, and
the real estate sites get better, the proportion of business from these
sites will increase. Buyers will Increasingly educate themselves about
prodl1cts and services offered by various real estate companies and
agents. Then, they'll contact the agent and company who have been most
helpful.
Some agents' home pages
are just "brag sheets." Others, though, are full of valuable
information about the community and its amenities, schools, and
properties. There are good tips to buyers and sellers, and many link to
other useful sites. I'll give you the same advice I've given about
finding agents through ads and open houses: Qualify the agent before
agreeing to meet or look at properties with him. That way, you'll be
sure you're getting what you want in service.
